‘She had achieved the
state of grace that at first she couldn’t even imagine. It was a moment of pure
perfection frozen in time forever…amazing grace!’
What I usually like to do when I pick up books to read is go
through the little summary that is included at the back cover of any paperback.
However, this book being my first Hardback, I couldn’t really get a gist of
what the book’s plot could be based on. But the title and the reputation of the
author, and to be very honest, the aroma of the pages made me pick it up
anyway.
‘Amazing Grace’ is another fictional work by Danielle Steel
that was published in the year 2007. In my humble opinion, this book fails to
keep up to the work that she is well known for. The book is basically about 4
people, whose lives take a drastic turn as a result of the aftermaths of an
earthquake. All these people then experience incidents which for them, are life
changing. For some, it changes for the best, while for some, it changes for the
worst.
If reflected profoundly on what lies beyond the story of
this book, one can come across priceless lessons. It’s all about the lessons
anyway, right? But as a reader who sometimes spends hours reading a book, it is
at times necessary that the book be stirring and thought provoking. In ‘Amazing
Grace’, the writer seems to have highly exaggerated the already clichéd
characters. What I also felt that the idea behind every character had been made
so repetitive that it seemed like the idea was forced down the throat of the
reader. I even noticed that it does take a good writer to talk about a simple
idea all throughout the book, using different words and better phrases.
The book isn’t all bad, if you would want to give it a try.
But it took me a lot of patience to get through the repetitive and not so
practical context. However, if you would want to know what the author feels
Amazing Grace is and why it is so hard to obtain, do give this book a shot. For
some, the lessons will definitely be worth the read and the time. To give it an
overall rating, a 3/5 for Danielle Steel’s, Amazing Grace.
