MEMORIES OF MIDNIGHT- SIDNEY SHELDON

Sing me no songs of daylight,
For the sun is the enemy of lovers
Sing instead of shadows and darkness
                                                           And memories of Midnight.
                                                                                           - Sappho

For the thrill, and Sheldon's words of might, 'Memories of Midnight' has till date managed to be my most favorite crime fiction novels. This was the first book by Sidney Sheldon, that I read and I instantly knew why he remains one of the best authors of this genre of books.

The story begins with a conversation, that leaves the reader hooked to see what lies ahead. The ability of the author to move through plots, making sure each is as interesting and unpredictable than the previous one, is commendable! The best part about the book  is that it is more than just paragraphs and chapters which rekindles the excitement.

The prequel of this book, 'The Other Side Of Midnight' introduces the reader to the unforgettable character of Constantin Demiris. A multi-millionaire, womanizer and a smug in his own ways. In whose veins ran Ichor; the blood of Gods. This book, 'Memories of Midnight', shows how deeply Constantine took to the synonymy of 'dikaiosini', justice and 'ekdikisis'; vengeance.

Demiris's thirst of vengeance is quenched with his thrill of being an executioner. However, his latest victim is more than just another kill for him. 'She' means more; she is more valuable, more vulnerable. Catherine Alexander, is his perfect revenge.

Catherine is oblivious to what life holds for her. Her benefactor seems to be too good for a human being. Little does she know, the Gods laughed at her fate. Although filled with gloomy occurrences, Catherine does have some good times in life. From her struggles of memory loss to losing every person she loved, Catherine found too little to be happy for. Her journey from a traumatized young woman who knows little of who she is to being a valued executive in London, Catherine is quite an epitome of a woman's strength, courage and beauty.

The book has no shortage of characters that seem unrealistically dynamic. Each character possessing conflicting emotions, which make them all the more unpredictable. The author's added stories in the line of crime, cunningness in  gamble, the fear in smuggling and the thrill in murder makes the story a compelling read. Giving this book a definite thumbs up for anyone looking for an enthralling mafia journey, that redefines love, revenge and vengeance.

Giannis Tcharos said delicately, "Mr Demiris, in the United States that is a criminal offense"
Constantin Demiris smiled, "I know."
