The Alchemist is regarded as one of the most influential books of all times. In fact, it is also considered by many people to be among the top 10 most life-changing books of all time. As a reader who is all about learning what such special books have to offer, I was excited to finally be able to give this book a shot. And now, after having read it for about 4 times, the excitement still lingers.
The alchemist is a simple fable about a shepherd boy, Santiago, who is in pursuit of his dream. While on this journey, he is guided by various personalities which in turn helps him recognize omens, learn the signs, listen to his heart and connect with the Soul of the World.
What helped me deeply enjoy this book and learn its lesson, was the simplicity with which it was written. The author’s diction is to be credited here. A short, comprehensible story, written in easy language, The Alchemist possesses profound life lessons. The prologue gave a gist about what this book was all about, which made it more easy to understand the fable that followed. Every time I read this book I had learned something new and vital, which I felt also was worth an underscore. If you’d flip through the pages of my copy of this book, you would find many such lines and paragraphs highlighted which I’m sure I would be going back to time and again.
There are few self- help books out there that have the ability to keep a reader interested and hooked to the book. And The Alchemist is one of them. I would recommend this book to you reader, if you seek a book that’s equally thought provoking and life- enhancing.
"It's not what enters men's mouths that's evil," said the alchemist. "It's what comes out of their mouths that is."
