Mark
Manson, and his counterintuitive approaches to living a good life.
This
book was a gift given to me a couple of months back, and to be honest, at a
time I really needed to learn the subtle art that this book imbues. However,
shortly after having read the book, I realized that there in fact wasn't anything
subtle about it.
The
author, through 9 chapters in the book tells us his journey from being a broke
adult, living at the mercy of his friends to being a superstar blogger, with
millions of readers. Kudos for having picked a title that will cause readers to
pick this book over any other paperback. As the author involves his personal side
to the lessons imbibed, he manages to keep the text humorous and,
adult-friendly (explicit content warning). Unlike other similar books who offer
more or less that same lessons, what makes TSAONGAF unique is the unflustered
real-talk about practicality by the author. This just helps in putting his
point out straight to the audience.
Although initially, the book is a tad bit slow, it picks up the pace with mind stirring opinions on failure being the way forward; why it is actually so necessary to say ‘no’ at times; and well, what is the point of everything if we are all going to die anyway. At this point, I was pretty hooked!
This book acted more like a course book on how to limit the number of Fs that we decide to give to things in life, basically to live a little healthier. To sum it up, Mark Manson’s “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck” is an average read with excellent lessons. Quite subtle there, aren’t I?
‘The
desire for more positive experience is itself a negative experience. And paradoxically,
the acceptance of one’s negative experience is itself a positive experience.’
