HONOUR THYSELF- DANIELLE STEEL

My first book by Danielle Steel, and it taught me just how necessary it is to respect and honour myself.

The story speaks of a legendary Carole Barber, who has shot to fame due to her splendid performances in the film and stage industry. She is considered to be of utmost beauty and grace in her life, but this does not help Carole know who she truly is. Carole soon decides to write a novel. But for some reason, she seems lost and can find no way to get around with the book.  After giving it a close thought and after being advised by her manager Stevie, she decides to take a trip alone to Paris with some hope of clearing her head and starting with the book, which would help her find herself too. However, on her arrival in Paris, there occurs an unfortunate incident that changes Carole’s life forever.

On her journey after, Carole is given a second chance to relive her life but this time through the eyes of others. This helps Carole discover who she was, what made her happy, why she made the choices she did.

The book had some insights on how important it is for individuals to approve of themselves or as we say ‘love’ themselves. Carole stands as an example of how at times, one must stand up for themselves no matter how hard the circumstances can be. And it only ends in the good. To have experienced this personally, I stand true to my word when I say, happiness finds its way if you let it!

To learn a lesson or two from this book would be a tribute to the simplicity with which this book is written, also why I would recommend to young adults and beginner readers. Hoping that it gives you a chance to count your blessing, heal wounded hearts and live a life of love, to honour others and your own self.

‘For reasons she wasn’t even sure of, she was making a pilgrimage back in time, and even after all these years, she felt as though she were coming home again.’
