One of the most talked about diary in the world, is the diary of Anne Frank. Very sure of the fact that this book needs no introduction. I read 'The Diary Of A Young Girl' by Anne Frank sometime back and knew that this book has lessons that the world must learn.
The diary is the work of Anne Frank, a girl who had resorted to hiding along with her family, during the Second World War. Anne's father, Otto Frank, along with his family that consisted of his wife, Edith Frank, Margot and Anne Frank, their daughters moved to a place which Anne named, "Secret Annex". A place where the family and a few other people hid for about 2 years. In her diary, Anne has made sure to clearly state their everyday chores, the tasks each member would undertake daily and how they all would make sure to spend as much time together and of course, the details of war. In most parts of the book Anne talks about the struggles of growing up, her behavioral changes, her relationship with her family, especially with her mother, the thoughts of a young girl...
To talk about how the book has been received by the world, I found it really subjective. What I mean by this is that there are people who find that this has changed their lives whereas there are also people who feel that the time invested in reading this book could have been put to better use. I personally did feel that the book was a little slow. However, not forgetting the fact that this is the work of a 13 year old, in times of war and hiding. My 13 year old self would never be able to produce something like this book.
Throughout the book Anne's personality is seen as a mixture of a curious teenager and a mature woman, with opinions of her own. Opinions that got restricted to pages only, who she believed were more patient than man. In her diary, Anne mentions that she aspires to be a great author one day. A wish that was fulfilled in the most ironic and unfortunate way. This book also acts as an evidence of how children see and judge. The compelling voice of Anne was warmly received by the world. The fact that this book was translated into more than 60 languages stands as a testimony to that same.
I would recommend 'The Diary Of A Young Girl' to anyone who wishes to witness the struggles faced by Anne and her family, in performing simple tasks; tasks we perform everyday with much ease and a lot more whining, due to the absence of perfection. The one thing I can guarantee to anyone who wishes to read this book, is that it will surely give you a reason to be thankful for the life you live today, because I sure did.
